Six practices. One loop.
Most studios are a strong discipline with weak neighbours: an industrial-design shop that "does apps", a software firm that "knows a guy" for enclosures, a motion house that never opens the CAD. skeelx is built differently.
Six practices, hired together or alone, staffed onto the same brief — so the ergonomics decision knows about the thermal problem, and the launch film is built from the same model the factory receives. Use this page as a map: each practice lists exactly what we do, why it matters and what you walk away with.

Strategy & Research
Know before you build. Discovery, evidence and framing that de-risk the expensive part.
Opportunity Framing
A structured pass over the market, the technology and the constraint set before money meets tooling. We map competitor moves, adjacent-category signals and technical headroom, then frame where a product can actually win. You walk away with a framed opportunity, explicit success criteria and a kill-list of directions not worth funding — often the most valuable page in the pack.
User & Field Research
Products for labs, clinics, factories and field crews fail in ways focus groups never predict. We observe real operators in real environments — gowning procedures, glove thickness, noise floors, shift pressure — and convert what we see into design requirements with evidence attached. You walk away with a requirements set your engineers can argue with, and footage that ends internal debates.
Feasibility & Technical Diligence
Can it be built, by whom, at what cost and risk? We pressure-test architectures, estimate BOM envelopes, identify the two or three physics problems that will dominate the program, and give a straight answer. Also available as independent diligence for boards and investors. You walk away with an architecture recommendation, a risk register ranked by consequence, and numbers labelled honestly as estimates.
Service & Experience Design
The product is also everything around it: unboxing, installation, calibration, consumables, servicing, support, end of life. We blueprint that whole life and design the touchpoints that make ownership feel engineered rather than endured. You walk away with a service blueprint, prioritised touchpoint designs and the operational requirements each one implies.
Definition & Roadmap
The bridge between insight and build: a product definition tight enough to quote against and honest enough to survive engineering. Where a family is coming, we design the platform logic — what's shared, what varies, what the second product inherits for free. You walk away with a PRD, a platform map and a staged roadmap with decision gates.
Industrial Design
Form with a reason. Objects that communicate what they are, reward daily use and survive manufacture.
Concept & Form Development
Wide, disciplined exploration of architecture and form — sketch, CAD and rough physical models in fast alternation — converging on a direction scored against the brief, not the loudest voice. Every concept carries its manufacturing logic from the first pass. You walk away with a developed design direction, the reasoning trail behind it, and models honest enough to test.
Ergonomics & Human Factors
Grip studies, reach envelopes, force budgets, anthropometric fit and use-error analysis — on rigs and with real users, not just percentile tables. For regulated devices we structure the work to feed usability-engineering files rather than bolt on compliance later. You walk away with validated ergonomic geometry and documented evidence of why the product fits the hands that use it.
CMF & Material Strategy
Colour, material and finish decided as engineering, not decoration: wear behaviour, chemical resistance, cleanability, moulding reality, cost per part and how the surface ages in year three. You walk away with a specified CMF system — materials, finishes, textures, suppliers where relevant — that production can hold.
Sustainable & Circular Design
Material impact, disassembly, repairability and end-of-life designed in while the architecture is still cheap to change. We favour measurable moves — fewer polymers, mechanical joins over adhesives, serviceable wear parts — over green theatre. You walk away with a lifecycle assessment of the choices made and a product that can be repaired, refurbished or reclaimed on purpose.
Product Design Language
The rules that make a family of products recognisably yours: proportion logic, detail vocabulary, interface placement, graphic and finish standards. This is brand where it matters most — on the object itself. You walk away with a design-language system documented well enough that your next product, designed by anyone, still looks like you.
Engineering
The physics and the factory. Turning a validated direction into a product that can be made, at rate, at cost.
Design for Manufacture & Assembly
Part consolidation, draft and tolerance strategy, fastener rationalisation, assembly sequence — resolved against the specific processes and volumes you'll actually run, from bridge tooling to high-volume moulding. You walk away with production-intent CAD and a design your contract manufacturer quotes without a page of exceptions.
Prototyping & Test
Mules, rigs, works-like, looks-like and works-like-looks-like builds — each made to answer a named question, not to decorate a milestone. We instrument prototypes and run the tests: drop, cycle, ingress, thermal soak, user trials. You walk away with test data tied to requirements and prototypes that retired real risks.
Analysis & Simulation
FEA, thermal and flow studies, tolerance stack-ups and mechanism analysis used to decide, not to illustrate. Simulation runs inside the design loop, so geometry improves between reviews instead of after failures. You walk away with analysis reports your engineers can audit and geometry with margin where it matters.
Production Transition
The unglamorous distance between "design frozen" and "units shipping": supplier engagement, tooling reviews, first-article inspection, golden samples, assembly documentation and the discipline to resist late drift. You walk away with a product in production, a documentation pack the line can hold, and a controlled change process.
Software & Digital Product
The half of the product you can't mould. Interfaces, applications and connected systems, engineered to ship.
Product UX & UI
The applications around the hardware — companion apps, consoles, dashboards — designed from the operator's task backwards. Information architecture, interaction design and a component system tight enough that new screens design themselves. You walk away with a tested design system and flows measured against task success, not taste.
HMI & Embedded Interfaces
On-device screens and controls under real constraints: sunlight, gloves, latency budgets, safety states, a rotary encoder instead of a mouse. We design the full state model — normal, degraded, fault — because devices spend their worst days in the last two. You walk away with a complete HMI specification, motion and sound behaviour included, ready for the embedded team.
Product Software Engineering
We build production software, not just pictures of it: device companion apps, control front-ends, cloud services and APIs, written in your repositories to your review standards. Where AI belongs in the product — assistive features, anomaly detection, natural-language control — we design and ship it with honest limits. You walk away with deployed, tested code your team maintains without us.
Connected Ecosystems
Device, app, cloud and fleet designed as one system: provisioning, pairing, identity, OTA updates, telemetry and the dashboards a support team actually uses. Decisions about what data leaves the device are treated as product decisions, made explicit. You walk away with an ecosystem architecture and interfaces that make a fleet feel like one product.
Computational & AI-Augmented Design
A wider search, tested against physics. Machines explore; people decide.
Generative & Parametric Exploration
We encode the real constraints — package, structure, process, cost — and generate option spaces no manual process would reach, then curate with human judgement. Used for architecture studies, lattice and lightweighting work, and layout problems with brutal constraints. You walk away with a defensible best-of-space design and the parametric model that produced it.
Simulation-in-the-Loop Optimisation
Geometry evolved directly against structural, thermal or flow targets, with manufacturing constraints enforced so results are producible, not printable sculpture. You walk away with components measurably better on the metric that matters — mass, stiffness, thermal margin — and the evidence trail behind the shape.
Custom Design Tooling
When the off-the-shelf tool doesn't exist, we write it: configuration generators, CAD automation, review pipelines, data converters between your PLM and reality. Small software, large leverage. You walk away with tooling your team owns, documented and handed over — not a dependency on us.
Data-Informed Design
Fielded products generate the best brief for the next one. We instrument products (with consent and restraint), analyse usage and service data, and turn it into ranked design changes for the next revision. You walk away with a feedback pipeline and a rev-2 backlog based on how the product is actually used.
Visualization, Motion & Spatial
The product, told accurately. CGI, animation, film and spatial experiences built from engineering truth — because we have the CAD, and we understand it.
Concept & Narrative Planning
The thinking before the rendering: what the film or experience must prove, to whom, in what order. Scripts, boards, previsualisation and shot planning that decide the story while changes are still cheap. You walk away with an approved narrative and previz, and a production plan without surprises.
Product CGI & Stills
Launch-grade imagery built from production CAD: hero shots, exploded views, cutaways, material studies and technical composites accurate enough for a datasheet and beautiful enough for a keynote. You walk away with a rendered asset library — resolutions, crops and variants mapped to every channel that needs them.
Animation & Motion Systems
How-it-works films, mechanism animations and interface motion that explain in thirty seconds what a whitepaper couldn't. We also define motion identity — the timing, easing and behaviour rules that make everything you publish recognisably yours. You walk away with finished films plus a motion standard your future work inherits.
Hybrid Film — Live Action + CG
Real hands, real environments, CG product — matched so precisely the seam disappears. Tabletop and location shoots, tracking, compositing and grade, for launches where the product exists but its best angle doesn't yet. You walk away with launch films that are both true and cinematic, and raw plates for future cuts.
XR & Virtual Product
Design reviews in VR at full scale before tooling money moves. AR service overlays that put the manual on the machine. Real-time configurators and virtual products for sales teams whose demo can't fit in a suitcase. You walk away with deployed spatial experiences and the real-time asset pipeline that keeps them current as the product evolves.
engagement
How we engage.
Five ways in: a Discovery Sprint when you need a decision in weeks; an End-to-End Product program when you need the whole journey; a Studio Partnership when you ship continuously; a Launch & Visualization Package when the product exists and the story doesn't; Advisory & Diligence when you need a straight independent answer. Every model runs on the same loop and the same standard of evidence.
